Course Description: This course introduces students to key concepts and approaches for modeling and
improving business processes and for applying enterprise information systems to facilitate process
improvement. It introduces the fundamentals of designing, documenting and evaluating a process.
Students will develop and apply these skills using modeling and business applications. A secondary focus of the course is to introduce common best practices used by today’s organizations to develop
information technology (IT) services that match business requirements and their business processes.
Pre-requisite/program: MGS 3040 Students without prerequisite(s) must withdraw from the class.
Program Student Learning Outcomes:
PSLO 1: Communicate effectively.
PSLO 2: Utilize business technologies to assess, analyze, and communicate business information.
PSLO 3: Use concepts and techniques from business disciplines to evaluate and solve business problems.
PSLO 6: Know the key concepts in all major business disciplines.
Course Student Learning Outcomes:
At the completion of the course students will demonstrate the ability to:
• Model business processes and benchmark business processes performance. (CSLO 1)
• Describe enterprise resource planning (ERP) information systems to support business process implementation (CSLO 2)
• Discuss social media information systems (SMIS) to support dynamic business processes. (CSLO 3)
• Compare IT Process frameworks such as ITIL, ISO 20000, and COBIT. (CSLO 4)
• Analyze a business process and create an information systems plan to support it. (CSLO 5)
• Apply ERP and ESN tools to execute business processes. (CSLO 6)
Instructional Methods
Students who are enrolled in an online course will experience no in-person meeting requirements as all
course content, reading/resources, class discussions, assessments, assignments, feedback and communications occur entirely online.
This online course is taught using in an eight-unit schedule and will use a standard of 1000 total points. Students will find common graded and non-graded learning activities present throughout the course. Each unit will include:

Supplemental Materials: Students will receive user names and passwords to access SAP. Students will also download Power BI on to their laptops.
