Assessment Overview
This assignment is based on the Eye Candy Cinemas case study which provided on a separate document.
In this assessment, you will write a report to demonstrate your personal and interpersonal skills to show your understanding of the scope, purpose, and requirements of information systems in an organisation.
This assessment component contributes 40% to your final course grade.
Learning Outcomes
This assessment contributes to the assessment of the following course learning outcomes:
· LO 1 – Analyse the application of information system components in the context of organisational efficiency and productivity.
· LO 3 – Demonstrate effective communication skills in technical and non-technical situations, as an emerging IT professional.
Specific Assessment Conditions
Duration
It is recommended that you spend between 15 and 20 hours on this assignment.
Materials
You can access all course materials and any other resources you wish to use as you work on this assessment.
You can ask a lecturer to clarify the instructions and for advice, but they cannot assist you in completing the tasks required – you must carry out the tasks yourselves!
Success Criteria
To be successful in this task you must obtain a minimum of 50% of the total available marks. You will be marked according to the rubrics shown below. Please take the time to study these as they contain information on how you will be assessed.
You are allowed a maximum of two attempts. The maximum percentage to be awarded on a second assessment attempt is 50%. Even if you score higher than 50% on a second attempt, you will only be awarded 50%.
Instructions
In this assessment, you will produce an information systems requirements report for the new system described in the Eye Candy Cinemas case study.
The following must be included in the report:
1. Requirements analysis overview
The report must begin with a brief overview of the company. You must also describe the purpose of report and what the report contains.
2. Information Gathering
Identify two information-gathering techniques you would use to obtain more information about how the current system works. For each technique identified, explain how the technique will be used and provide two examples of the received information obtained using the technique.
3. System development life cycle
Identify two activities for each phase of a system development life cycle for the new system.
4. Design a data model to solve a given problem – Conceptual Design
First Cut Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) and selection of entities.
· Analyze the case study and produce a set of business rules.
· List the entities that will be used to create the ERD and create the first-cut ERD.
· List all the Entities and relationship among each entity.
· Describe each relationship in the ERD in words.
· Identity appropriate cardinality for each relationship.
· Produce the first-cut ERD using a CASE tool.
