ENEM106 Assessment 2 Brief - Individual Poster Presentation

Aim: To develop your academic communication skills through a visual poster presentation and short presentation and Q&A.

AHEP4 learning outcomes assessed:

M17-FL: Communicate effectively on complex engineering matters with technical and non-technical audiences, evaluating the effectiveness of the methods used.

Assignment brief:

Over the first few weeks of term, identify a renewable energy engineering research topic of interest and start  researching this  using  recent  (2018  or  later)  academic  papers  on the topic.  Prepare  an academic poster communicating the topic and key developments arising from recent research. The posters will be submitted electronically in week 9. They will then be printed and assessed during an academic conference-style. poster presentation session in week 11. Everyone will give a maximum 3- minute overview of their poster topic, with 5 minutes for questions.

It is  recommended that you  prepare your  posters in  MS  Powerpoint, setting the  page size to A1 portrait (to ensure we can display them easily).

There will be a session focusing on poster presentations and how to prepare academic posters in week 5. It is recommended that you don’t start preparing your poster before then, but use the early weeks of term for research and reading.

Weighting:

This assignment is worth 30% of the overall module mark.

Submission information:

A pdf of your poster must be submitted electronically via ELE. Following the poster session you must complete the ELE reflective quiz. This will remain open for one week.

Deadline: Monday 18th  November, 12:00

Assessment information:

Posters will be assessed during a conference-style. poster session in week 11 (w/c 2nd  December). Date and time to be confirmed.

Marking and feedback: Marks and written feedback will be released at the start of term 2.

Reflection on poster presentation: Following the presentation, evaluation of

the effectiveness of your poster and presentation as a method of communicating engineering concepts via the online quiz.
