Please submit your answers to parts A, B, C, and D as a single document

There are several ways to input IPA characters, depending on your operating system. The following link will work on all platforms:

You will need to use a font which supports IPA characters. The symbol “□” means that a character is not supported by the font you’reusing. The previous link has lists of IPA-compatible fonts that come already installed for various operating systems. If you need to install new fonts, the following guides might help:

Part A (5 marks)
Provide the IPA symbol for the following sounds, including any diacritics
1. Voiceless bilabial nasal
2. Voiceless aspirated uvularstop
3. Voiceless dental affricate
4. Voiced labiodental approximant
5. Low front vowel
Part B (15 marks)
The following pairs of sounds have one difference in articulatory terms. Describe the differences. The first has been done for you:
1. [s] [ʂ] place: alveolar vs retroflex
2. [ɓ] [b]
3. [r] [ɹ]
4. [ʎ] [ɲ]
5. [ʃ] [ʒ]
6. [k] [q]
Part C (40 marks)
Provide a phonetic transcription of recording 1 (audio only) on canvas.
Part D (40 marks)
Provide a phonetic transcription of recording 2 (audio + video) on canvas. You only need to transcribe the speech of the person who is being filmed, ignoring any other speakers you can hear.
Tips:
• Focus on the segments, don’t worry about thing like pitch
• You can slowdown the video if you need to
• Don’t forget glottal stops!
