Description of the assessment
The embedded system shown in figure 1 has an analogue input connected to AN0, an 8-way DIP switch connected via the SPI bus and an LCD connected in 8-bit mode to POTR B of the microcontroller.
Your task is to create the system shown in figure 1 in Proteus and of course, create the code.
The lcd should initially show a two-line message – ‘Welcome to’ on the top line and ‘Embedded Systems’ on the second line. After a short delay this should change to displaying the adc value on the top line and the DIP switch value on the second line with suitable user interface information telling the user what the display is showing.

Assessment Content
CW Part 1 - System Demonstration (30% of overall Coursework mark)
The system will need to be demonstrated on or before the hand in date to assess the system performance and build quality. A copy of your Proteus project will also need to be submitted by email.
CW Part 2 - Written Technical Report (70% of overall Coursework mark)
A technical report, giving a good technical insight into the work done. Do not include wide-ranging background material on embedded systems, PIC microcontrollers etc. Report sections are likely to include introduction, circuit design including circuit diagrams, programming including flow or state diagrams, testing and evaluation, comments on performance, and concluding remarks. A full programme listing (single spaced and preferably colour coded) should be included as appendices.
Assessment Rubric
The assessment rubric on the next page shows the complete criteria of the CW and how you will be assessed.
When the assessment is returned you will receive a digital version of the rubric showing how you performed against each criterion. There will be an opportunity to discuss these with your personal academic tutor.
Anonymous Marking
This assignment cannot be marked in line with the Anonymous Marking Policy requirements as you are required to give a team demonstration and one team report. Please ensure that in this assessment you are identified by your name.
