Module Learning Outcomes:
This assignment is designed to assess the following module learning outcomes. Your submission will be marked using the Grading Criteria given in the section below.
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of modern organisations and small businesses, how these are designed, developed and managed
• Undertake the feasibility planning process towards a small business, including the nature of markets and customer preferences, and construct a feasibility study
• Demonstrate a critical awareness of the importance of opportunity recognition processes involved in creating and developing business opportunities
• Explain how to implement and evaluate such a study, both at the opportunity recognition and the study implementation stages
Assignment:
This assignment requires you to work in groups to develop a new business or social enterprise idea and present it in an essay based on the business model canvas. You will also present a 3-minute video pitch for your entrepreneurial opportunity.
Each year, we will focus on a particular area of importance relating to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This year we are focusing on:
• Reduction of carbon emissions, related to UN SDG Number 12
https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/sustainable-consumption-production/
In your group, you will need to explore an income-generating commercial or social enterprise business idea.
The business idea your group will be proposing should offer something that contributes to reducing carbon emissions. This could be:
• A product that uses waste from food production
• An app that rewards travel by foot or by bicycle
• Sustainable tourism activities
• New ways of using waste heat energy from data centres
Start by calculating your own carbon footprint using the calculator provided by Climate Hero at the link below. Read through the results provided and see what actions you could take to reduce your own carbon emission output. Use your results to discuss and compare with your group to help you develop a shared idea to take forward.

• Opportunity identification and value proposition
• Customer relationships, segments and channels
• Key partners, activities and resources
• Cost structure and revenue streams
Your 3-minute video pitch should be aimed at potential investors and must include an estimate of the level of carbon emission reduction you could reasonably expect through take up of your business idea.
Grading criteria and a marking rubric are given below to help guide your submission.
In-text citations and references to academic and other credible resources should be included where these provide evidence for your thinking or have helped you shape your ideas. Help with referencing can be found here:

Ethical Use of Generative AI (GenAI)
You are permitted to use GenAI to support your submission for this assessment. You may use it for the following activities:
• Seeking inspiration to come up with your idea
• Researching and refining your idea

• Drafting an outline to organise or summarise your thoughts
• Checking spelling and grammar
You must not use GenAI to:
• Generate a script. for your video presentation

You may not submit any work generated by an AI tool as your own. Where you include any material generated by an AI tool, it should be properly declared just like any other reference material. Alongside your assignment you should also provide a commentary in the Cover Sheet detailing how GenAI has been used to develop your final submission. If you have not used GenAI tools, you should clearly state so.
