ASSIGNMENT 2: IDS Business Case

Summary

Many information systems have not been designed with an understanding of IDS, leading  to  adverse   impacts  on   Indigenous   communities  and   individuals.  This assignment is aimed at getting you to apply IDS principles and approaches in order to suggest improvements to an existing organisational information system, and the outcomes for the communities that it serves.

For  this  assignment  you  will  develop  a  qualitative  business  case  to  support  the application of Indigenous data sovereignty principles in design of a given ICT system or project.

Word Counts

This  business  case  will  be  delivered  as  a slide  presentation  pack with supporting speaker  notes.  The  presentation  should  be  between  20  and  30  slides  (including references).

The presentation slides can be submitted in PDF format but the speaker notes must be submitted as a Word (.DOC or .DOCX) file.

Assessment

Criteria for assessment:

1.   Degree to which presentation demonstrates understanding of Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles.

2.   Ability to analyse a given information system in terms of the impacts of adopting Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles.

3.   Ability to communicate succinctly and in a culturally sensitive manner

This whole assessment task requires students to demonstrate human knowledge and skill acquisition without the assistance of AI.

STEP 1: CREATE A BUSINESS CASE PRESENTATION

A)  Select one of the case studies from Assignment 1 (and presented below). You may use the same case study that you selected in Assignment 1 or select a different one if you wish.

B)  For the information system selected, develop a qualitative business case for adopting Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles. You must select and justify a set of IDS principles, supported by literature, from the various sets of principles introduced throughout the unit so far. You must also cite examples from the IDS literature to support your business case.

You will create a presentation slide deck along with speaker notes for each slide. The business case must include

1.      A title slide, acknowledgements etc. (2 slides)

2.      A brief summary of the selected Information System and its aims (1-2 slides)

3.      A SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis of the system in relation to Indigenous Data Sovereignty (4 slides)

4.      A description and justification of IDS principles you will be using (4 slides)

5.       Recommendations for maximising strengths, minimising weaknesses, capitalising on

opportunities, and countering threats through implementing Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles. You must provide at least 4 recommendations and reference at least 4 IDS

principles. (4-8 slides)

6.       Examples from the literature for each recommendation (at least 4 slides)

7.      A concluding slide (1 slide)

8.      A slide of references (at least 1 slide)
